DAY1 (2 first races) #zoomworlds2013
FINLAND TAKES LEAD AT THE ZOOM8 WORLDS
This years Zoom8 World Championships in Bergen, Norway, started with some extreme rain and thunder, thanks to the tail-end of a passing storm. All 85 participants from nine countries and the race course organisation could do nothing but wait when AP went up by the Race Committee in the morning. As weather conditions improved, although rain showers kept coming, AP got taken down at around 12 noon. However, the ever-shifting winds did not allow the race course to be set until around 2.40 pm when the days first successful start for men got under way followed closely by the ladies. Weather conditions had at that point improved tremendously with sunshine and winds blowing 8-10 m/s.
Mens race started finally at 2.40 pm and ladies 5 minutes after. The best men's sailor for the first day came from Sam Stenman FIN-614 from Finland followed Norwegians Birk Kvitrud Haugstad NOR-186 and David Bjelkaroy Westervik NOR-163.
In ladies races the best sailor of the day was finally Catharina Sandman who performed steadily over the two starts. In individual races the best were for the first one was Saara Tukiainen FIN-525 and Marie Pihlas EST-62 for the second start.
